In every fiber of Popotillo, in every meticulous and colorful detail, devotion to the Virgin of Guadalupe is intertwined.

Artist Info: Ariosto Rivera is a Mexican artistic firm created by Jesús Rivera and Joaquín Ariosto. This duo has its roots in the reinterpretation of the ancestral technique of straw art, which consists of fine vegetal fibers dyed with natural dyes, to create true mosaics of figurative expression, interweaving of colors, materials, meanings and contrasting textures. By using vibrant colors, unusual textures, and soft but bright shades of symbolism, the artists create surreal figures, majestic animals, skulls, catrinas from the Day of the Dead, and beings taken from the depths of their dreams.

Material: Straw (Popotillo)

"Popotillo" is the local name for the millet plant. The beeswax popotillo technique is an art form of Aztec origin, distinguished by the use of the adhesive properties of wax to arrange delicate popotillo fibers in different sizes and colors. This technique allows for the creation of vibrant and relief-filled artworks that capture the dynamic essence of this ancient tradition.
